Fitness to Practise Committee

The Nova Scotia Regulator of Physiotherapy (NSRPT) is seeking registrants and members of the public to serve on its Fitness to Practise Committee.

The Committee considers matters in which a physiotherapist may be unable to practise safely because of a medical, physical, mental or emotional condition, disorder or addiction. Its work may include reviewing information, participating in meetings with registrants, considering remedial agreements and monitoring whether agreed requirements have been met.

Committee members contribute to fair, evidence-informed decisions that protect the public while recognizing the sensitive and often complex circumstances involved.

We are seeking people who demonstrate:

• commitment to the public interest; 

• sound judgment and ethical reasoning; 

• an ability to evaluate information objectively; 

• openness to different perspectives; 

• cultural awareness and sensitivity; 

• an ability to make fair and thoughtful decisions; 

• professionalism, collaboration and confidentiality; and 

• sufficient time to prepare for and participate in committee work. 

Previous regulatory or committee experience is helpful but is not required. Orientation, training and ongoing support will be provided.

Registrant members

Registrant applicants must be physiotherapists registered with NSRPT and eligible for committee service. Applicants from different practice settings, areas of practice, career stages and regions of Nova Scotia are encouraged to apply.

Public members

Public applicants bring an important perspective independent of the profession. Experience in areas such as health care, law, policy, ethics, mental health, disability, human resources or evidence-based decision-making may be helpful but is not required.

NSRPT welcomes applicants whose backgrounds, experiences and communities will broaden the perspectives represented in its regulatory work.

Appointment and commitment

Appointments are for a term of 3 years. Committee work is expected to be occasional and will depend on the matters referred to the Committee. Meetings will generally be held virtually, with advance materials provided for review.
